Elanora State School
Afternoon classes at Elanora enable children to experience a variety of dance styles including ballet, jazz, lyrical, tap and more, in a fun, relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
Our friendly, experienced teachers help the students learn the joy of dance and music while creating and promoting musical appreciation, rhythm, coordination, fitness, social skills and most of all fun!.
The following classes are held at Elanora State School in the Performing Arts Centre and the Resource Centre:
Tiny Tots
2-3 years
A fun, enjoyable class for children aged two to four years encouraging the joys of dance and music in toddlers and pre-schoolers.
Lessons are specifically created to promote musical appreciation, rhythm, co-ordination, fitness, body awareness, social skills and most of all fun.
Children learn basic dance disciplined behaviours such as waiting, taking turns, following instructions, working together and having a positive attitude. The emphasis is more on creativity and enjoyment and not so much on technique.
A variety of props and music are used which are popular and familiar to pre-schoolers to create a fun and exciting atmosphere.
Lessons consist mainly of jazz with an introduction to classical ballet.

Tiny Tots Tap
2-3 years
A wonderful introduction to tap for the little ones provided in a fun way by Little Groovers teachers.
This class is held immediately before Tiny Tots so it’s a perfect addition to the children’s Little Groovers experience.
Monday 3:15pm – 3:30pm

Prep Hour (jazz, tap and ballet)
4-6 years
Little Groovers Prep Hour is a dance class designed for four to six-year-olds which consists of 20 minutes of jazz, 20 minutes of ballet and 20 minutes of tap.
This class was created as the children who attended the pre-school Creative Dance program at their kindergarten wanted to continue to dance during their first year of school.
The class gives an introduction to the three styles of dance with the aims of building self-esteem, confidence and self-discipline while promoting musical appreciation, rhythm, co-ordination, fitness and most of all fun. It is also a great way for the new preppies to make friends with other children in their first year of school.
Children learn basic dance disciplined behaviours such as waiting, taking turns, following instructions, working together and having a positive attitude.
The emphasis of this class is on creativity and enjoyment with an introduction to technique.

Ballet
All ages
Give your children an introduction to the art form that is ballet without the pressure!
Children are taught structured exercises helping build technique as well as incorporating more free expressional movement.
Our friendly, experienced teachers make this dance style fun as they share their passion while introducing expression and grace in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
Junior Ballet and Lyrical (Grade 1): Tuesday 3:15pm – 3:45pm
Junior Ballet and Lyrical (Grade 2): Tuesday 3:45pm – 4:15pm
Intermediate Ballet (Grade 3 – 5): Thursday 3:15pm – 3:45pm

Lyrical
All ages
Lyrical is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, and classical ballet. Lyrical dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements. Lyrical dance stresses versatility and improvisation, unlike the strict, structured nature of ballet and can be performed to many different styles of music.
Little Groovers Dance Co. teachers are all very experienced at teaching this style to young children and are able to demonstrate the expression of music and lyrics through dance.

Jazz
All ages
A fun, upbeat and exciting class set to current music designed to incorporate the latest jazz and funk techniques, musicality, co-ordination, fitness, flexibility and most of all fun. Classes begin with warm up routines, corner work (larger movement going from one end of the room to the other). They then ending with learning a routine which the children work on each week and a good cool down and stretch.
Junior Jazz (Grade 1): Tuesday 4:15pm – 5:00pm

Intermediate Jazz (Grade 3 – 4): Thursday 4:15pm – 5:00pm

Tap
All ages
Little Groovers dancers love learning tap - a type of dance characterised by using the sounds of metal taps affixed to the heel and toe of shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion, coupled with both characteristic and interpretative body movements. It is a great way for children to learn rhythm and coordination.
This class is a lot of fun for both the youngsters and the teachers!
Junior Tap (Grade 1 & 2): Tuesday 5:00pm – 5:30pm
Intermediate Tap (Grade 3 – 5): Thursday 5:00pm – 5:30pm

Please note:
Parents are encouraged to wait in the waiting room during class (parents are welcome to watch their child’s first class as long they are not making a distraction to the class for example parents talking and siblings making distractions). The children are able to better focus when the parents are not watching. There will be opportunities for you to see what your child has been doing in class last class of term, mid-year and end of year concerts.
